Just like extruding, the most important thing about lathing large areas is planning ahead. You sould know what textures you are going to use, where you are going to use them, where other rooms will attach, and maybe even where some pillars and other things will be placed. That is a lot of things to remember, which is usualy why I try to write all of my ideas down onto paper before I start.

There are basicaly two types of rooms you can make with lathe. You can make a large, round shaped room, or you can make a donut-like hallway. I will do a large room, mostly because the hallways airn't recommended to make with lathe because the whole hallway is one room, which can create a little extra lag as well as lower FPS. I started my room by just placing the verts where I wanted them, notice that these verts don't have to be convex. |

I lathed those verts around the axis, right away I got a few bad normals. I had to go through every face and pick out and erase all of the bad ones, which didn't take too long. I looked over what I had left and made sure that it lathed correctly, and that all the normals were facing the way I wanted them. |

After that I added textures and made a few tweaks to some of the verts which were one or two units out of place because of the lathing.

I added some lighting (a bit too much lighting, actualy) and other things. This level would be much too small to have a good dogfight in because its so small, but it would be a good 'connecting' room which joins two other rooms together.
